The Basic Embedded Generator (EG) Connection Technical Requirements set out the technical standards for connecting basic embedded generation systems - such as small-scale solar and other Distributed Energy Resources (DER) - to Western Power’s low voltage (LV) distribution network. They explain what customers, installers and service providers must do to safely connect and interface with our network.

The current requirements came into effect on 1 July 2025 and apply to all basic embedded generator installations across Western Power’s network. These requirements must continue to be used for all applicable connections until further notice.

Updates to the technical requirements are underway to align with the recently published Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Procedure: Technical Requirements for Standard Small User Facilities. The updated requirements will come into effect from 1 May 2026, with a preview now available to support early awareness and planning.

By applying consistent technical standards, Western Power helps ensure DER systems are connected safely, operate reliably, and provide equitable access to the network—supporting community confidence, network stability and fair outcomes for all users.
